Obituary of Robert E. Andrews
Robert E. Andrews, Sr., 87, formerly of Fonda, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Oswego Heath Care Hospital in Oswego. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY November 7, 1921 a son of the late Lawrence Andy and Bertha Mae Young Andrews.
Robert served his country during WWII with the US ARMY and was Honorably Discharged in 1944. He was united in marriage to the former Catherine M. "Kate" Siebe on August 18, 1946. The couple spent most of their lives residing in Fonda where Robert was employed with Fonda Manufacturing and later with Rulison in Gloversville.
Robert was a member of the Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church, the Iroquois Seniors and the American Legion. He loved to play card games such as Pitch and Pinochle and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also an avid bowler who enjoyed playing at Perry Lanes in Johnstown and Sunset Lanes in Gloversville.
His loving family includes his daughter, Lisa D. Hinkle and her husband Vernon of Fort Plain, his five sons, Robert E. Andrews, Jr. and his wife Edna of Canajoharie, Kenneth L. Andrews, Sr. and his wife Darlene of Pennellville, Lawrence P. Andrews, Sr. and his wife Kathy of Pennellville, David A. Andrews, Sr. and his wife Donna of Tribes Hill, and Dana L. Andrews of Johnstown, his sister, Florence Banovic of Utica, and his three brothers, John Andrews of Lyons Falls, James Andrews of Gloversville and Harry Andrews of Fonda. 21 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his loving wife of over 60 years, Catherine M. "Kate" Andrews on September 25, 2006, his brother Lester Andrews, Sr., and three sisters, Olive Dawes, Pat Martin and Nora Way.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00AM on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY with Rev. Christopher Hamm of North Main St. United Methodist Church in Gloversville, officiating. Interment will follow with full Military Honors in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats in Fonda.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Contributions in Robert's memory may be made to the Iroquois Seniors in care of the funeral home.
