Obituary of William Allen Rowback

William Allen Rowback, Sr., 63, of Gloversville, died Tuesday April 23, 2009 at Albany Medical Center. He was born in Gloversville on April 14, 1946 the son of John and Laura Luft Rowback. Bill earned his education through the Gloversville School system. It was there that he met his high school sweetheart, the former Mary J. Austin. They were married July 10, 1962. He was the current president and past officer to the Sir William Johnson Volunteer Fire Department. He belonged to the Space League and In-Crowd Bowling Leagues. Bill enjoyed his many trips to Turning Stone Casino. Bill was employed at Lee Dye for 15 years and retired as an electrician from Gloversville/Johnstown Waste Treatment Facility after 32 years of service. He was very proud to go back to school in 1988 to obtain his GED. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He always loved taking his youngest grandson, Joey, to the airport. Survivors include his wife Mary Rowback; two sons and daughters-in-law: William A. Rowback Tracy and Robert John Rowback Robin all of Gloversville; a brother, Richard Rowback of Broadalbin; a step-brother, Robert Carrol Pat of Florida; a sister, Marsha Tiano of Gloversville; three grandchildren: Brandon Michael, Ashley Nicole and Joey Michael Rowback and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was predeceased by a son, Michael Wayne Rowback; a brother, John Rowback and a step-brother, Bud Rowback. Visitation will be held on Sunday April 26, 2009 from 4 to 7 pm at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 27 at the funeral home with Pastor Alan Witter presiding. Interment will be at Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill's memory to the Sir William Johnson Volunteer Fire Department, 102 County Highway 131, Johnstown, NY 12095.
