Obituary of Charles Prevendoski

Charles Prevendoski 82, an Amsterdam resident for more than fifty years, passed away Saturday morning at St. Mary's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 10, 1926, the youngest of two sons of Adam and Veronica Medvitz Prevendoski. He attended schools in McKees Rocks, Penn., and was a veteran, serving a two year term in the United States Navy before a six year stint in the US Marine Corps. Mr. Prevendoski was most proud of the latter service and considered himself a marine to the end, "Semper Fi " " Ooh Rah".He served in the Korean Conflict as well as World War II. He is a member in good standing with the 2nd Tank Battalion 2nd Marine Division. After working many years at GE in Schenectady, he retired in 1989. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and was a member of John J. Wyszomirski Post 701. In addition to his parents, his brother, James Prevendoski predeceased him last year. On November 29, 1952 he was united in marriage to the former Maryann DeZolt. He is survived by his wife of fifty six years; his children, Charles Vincent Mary Ann T. Prevendoski of West Rutland, Vt., Margaret Mark LaGrange of Fonda, NY, George Faith Prevendoski of Hadley NY, Mark Dawn Prevendoski of Amsterdam, Steven Prevendoski of Gloversville, and Thomas Prevendoski of Rochester. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; Charles T. Prevendoski, Timothy L. Prevendoski, Therese M. Prevendoski, Sara Prevendoski, Edward Prevendoski, Heather Mobley, Katie Prevendoski, Samantha Prevendoski, Jenise LaGrange and Kalli Prevendoski. He is further survived by three great grandchildren; Owen Prevendoski, Sarrell Boyd and Damian C. Mansur; a sister in law, Carolyn Prevendoski and nieces and nephews. Charles enjoyed spending time in his garage, gardening, canning and the summers spent at the lake with his family, playing cards. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church by Fr. John M. Medwid. Relatives and friends are invited and may call today Monday from 4-7 pm at the at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment with military honors will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. Contributions may be made to the Post 701 American Legion in his honor, to be used for their charitable works in our community.
