Obituary of Alicia Torres
Alicia Torres 95, of Forbes Street, passed away Wednesday morning at her home, peacefully, after a brief illness.
Born in Yauco, Puerto Rico on Dec. 9, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Leonardo and Leonora Delgado Pacheco. She was employed in Puerto Rico as a seamstress and later after coming to Amsterdam in 1964, she was a home maker. She loved her family and her home was the center of family life. Alicia was especially fond of caring for her grandchildren and was an excellent cook.
She married Felix Torres in 1936. He predeceased her in 1981. A son, Porfirio Torres also predeceased her in 1973. A devout Roman Catholic, she was a long time parishioner of the former St. Michael The Archangel Church, and currently, of St. Mary's parish.
She leaves her beloved children; Dora Ramon Jr. Camacho of Amsterdam, Ramon Carmen Torres of Cleveland, Ohio, Felix Torres Jr. of Amsterdam, Sara Julio Serrano and Emilia "Linda" Gilberto Valencia all of Amsterdam; twenty four grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; seven great- great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Services are Friday at 8:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Mary's Church. Interment is in St. Michael's Cemetery. Fr. John Medwid, celebrant. Calling hours are today from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Community Hospice Of Amsterdam in care of the funeral home office.
