Obituary of Mildred I. Knapik
Mildred I. Knapik 84, of Second Avenue passed away Thursday morning at the St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after being stricken at the Edward L. Wilkinson RHCF, where she has been a patient for the past few weeks.
Born February 28, 1925 in Amsterdam, New York, she was the daughter of the late Adolph and Lena Lansing Broszeit. She was a 1942 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Mildred was employed in the Customer Accounting Department of Mohasco Industries for 41 years until retiring in 1982.
She was a member of the St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Amsterdam and served as Treasurer for 12 years, Church Council, Sunday School Teacher for 50 years and was a member of the Faithful Followers Bible Class and the St. Luke's Auxiliary. Mildred was also a member of the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a former Den-mother for the Tribes Hill Cub Scouts. She was an avid Yankees fan.
On November 26, 1953, she married John E. Knapik who passed away October 9, 1985.
Survivors include her devoted son Peter W. Knapik and companion Kim Egan of Tribes Hill; a loving grandson, Kyle Knapik and companion Jodi Bown of Mayfield, NY.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 10AM at the St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, corner of Pine and Division Streets in Amsterdam with the Rev. Dr. John Califano officiating. Burial will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5 to 7PM at the funeral home.
