Obituary of Lorraine F. Agresta

Lorraine F. Agresta, 82, of Amsterdam NY, has gone to her eternal rest on Friday, March 10th, 2017. Born on February 8th, 1935 in Amsterdam NY, she was the daughter of the late Rose Goska and Stanislaus Drew. A lifelong area resident, Lorraine graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School Class of 1953. She married the love of her life Frank D. Agresta on September 5th, 1955. It was a strong and beautiful union that lasted until his passing on January 22nd, 1996. Lorraine spent many years as a telephone operator. Over her dedicated years of service she watched the progression of phone service and how it evolved. From sitting in front of a large switchboard manually moving wires quickly and efficiently from port to port to connect lines, to what it is today and the simplicity of just hitting a button to connect a call. She worked for the New York Bell Telephone Company which was formally located in Amsterdam. She also spent time working at the information desk for St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Lorraine was an avid reader who truly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a devoted woman who was caring, nurturing, and soft spoken. Her absence will leave an irreplaceable void among her family and close friends. Lorraine is survived by her son Frank Agresta and his wife Debbie; her sisters, Irene Piech of San Jose, CA, and Barbara Guisti and her husband Larry of Perth, NY; her brother Norman Drew of San Diego, CA; her grandchildren, Matthew (Kaylyn) Monty of Galway, NY, and Joseph (Dionna) Monty of Ballston Spa, NY. Many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Lorraine is predeceased by her beloved husband Frank; and her parents Rose and Stanislaus. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday March 18th, 2017 at 11am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, with Rev. Jeffrey L'Arche as Celebrant. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 9-11am in the St. Mary's Chapel prior to the Mass. Burial will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Amsterdam at a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made in Lorraine's honor to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
