Obituary of Selma B. Gifford
Selma B. Gifford, a retired nurse, died Monday, May 18 in St.
Petersburg, Florida following an extended illness. Mrs. Gifford was
96 years old. She was a resident of Gloversville from her birth until
1993 when she moved to Florida because of failing health. A daughter, Sharon Gifford Wallace, of St. Petersburg and a son, Dr. Lawrence M.
Gifford of New York City, survive her. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Gifford was a graduate of Gloversville High School, and a 1933 graduate of the Ellis Hospital School of Nursing in Schenectady. She worked at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville for over 50 years, mostly as an obstetrical nurse. For many years, she was an active volunteer with the Fulton County chapter of the American Heart Association. She was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gloversville.
Memorial services will be held in St. Petersburg and in New York City. A graveside service will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville on June 10 at 2 p.m. with Pastor L. David Almleaf presiding. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home.
