Obituary of Genevieve Nichols
Genevieve Nichols, 95, of the Park Hill Adult Home, Grove Street, Amsterdam, passed away Friday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital shortly after arrival.
Born in Amsterdam on November 1, 1913, she was the last of seven daughters of Walter and Anastasia Kerible Samolis. A lifelong resident, she attended local schools. Gen worked for several local manufacturers including Ward Products and Empire Devise until she retired.
She was a lifelong communicant of the former St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church.
In September of 1946, she was united in marriage to Edward Nichols.
He predeceased her in 1979.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her six sisters; Violet Kazyaka, Veronica Konieczny, Emily Bleser, Nellie Samolis, Ona Jablonski and Sally Slavik.
Her loving family includes her son Thomas and his wife Janet Nichols of Scarborough, Maine; granddaughter Kristen DeLaMater; grandson Mark Nichols; great grandsons; Connor and Kevin Nichols; Zachary, Nathan and Liam DeLaMater; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass Of Christian Burial which will be offered Monday at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church by Fr. John Medwid. Interment will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery. At Genevieve's request, there are no calling hours and memorials may be made to the National Shrine Of North American Martyrs, Auriesville, NY in care of the funeral home office. Her family has entrusted her arrangements to the care of Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home , 171 Guy Park Avenue.
