Obituary of Jennie Cwiakala
Jennie Cwiakala 91, formerly of Grand Street, passed away Friday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
Born in New Britain, Conn., on Sept. 28, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Josephine Balicka Cwiakala. She moved to Galway at an early age, and later to Brooklyn. Jennie lived here since 1942. She was employed by the former Mohawk Carpet Mills and from 1963 until she retired in 1979 by Ward Products. Jennie was proud of her Polish heritage, and enjoyed the many area Polka Festivals and bus trips she attended. She was the beloved matriarch of her family, and was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus' Roman Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Pawloski and Mary Nester.
She leaves her brothers; Stanley Cwiakala of Sandston, Va., Bruno Cwiakala of Amsterdam and Theodore Cwiakala of Ballston Spa; sister Adele Vainauskas of Hagaman; many nieces and nephews also survive.
Services are Tuesday at 8:45 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Funeral Mass which will be offered at 9:30 am at St. Stanislaus' Church by Fr. David Mickiewicz. Interment is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Galway, NY. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Jennie's name to St. Stanislaus' Church, or the Montgomery County SPCA both in care of the funeral home office.
