Obituary of Anthony R. D'Errico

Mr. Anthony R. D'Errico, 87, of Ocala Florida formerly of the Gloversville, NY area, passed away June 30th, 2009 at the Monroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida. Born on March 15, 1922 in Gloversville, NY a son of Tammaro and Marie Antonio Javarone D'Errico. He was one of ten children. Mr. D'Errico enlisted in the Army in Jume of 1940. After a year he transferred to the Paratroopers receiving his training at Fort Benning, GA and Camp Mackall, N.C. In April of 1944 he arrived in Sicily and then Italy as part of the 504th and 509th 82nd Airborne Division. He took part in the invasion of Southern France and followed into Belgium where he took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Purple Heart fro injuries received while engaging the enemy and taking fire. While in the Army he received the American Defense Medal, European Theatre Medal, American Service Medal, African Middle East Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantry Medal. He was discharged from active duty in June of 1945. Tony was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Miami, Florida for 33years. Upon retirement he moved to Ocala, Florida. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of Our Lady of the Springs Roman Catholic Church in Ocala. On April 10th, 1944 he married the former Mary Carlton who he met in Charlotte, VA. She died in 1989. Survivors include one daughter, Stephanie Jane D'Errico of Ocala, Fl. A Sister-In-Law, Edith D'Errico of Schenectady and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was pre-deceased by five brothers, Augustine, Pasquale, Joseph, Thomas and Frank D'Errico and four sisters, Josie and Celia D'Errico, Lucy Roy and Speranza Naish. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday July 10th, 2009 at 10:00A.M. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, South Main St. Gloversville, NY 12078. Interment will follow with full military honors in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, NY. There are no calling hours.
