Obituary of William Ernest Weaver
William Ernest Weaver of Chatham, New York, formerly of Gloversville, New York, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 20, 2009. He was 59 years old. Bill was born in Gloversville and was the son of the late Francis Charlie and Imogene Jean Weaver. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School and attended the SUNY Maritime Academy.
Bill lived in Gloversville most of his life and worked at General Electric in Schenectady and Tryon School for Troubled Youth in Johnstown. In 1983 Bill was involved in a nearly fatal motorcycle crash; his recovery from the injuries he sustained was remarkable to all who knew him.
Bill moved to Chatham in 2006, and enjoyed many hobbies including currency and stamp collecting, Civil War history, card games, vintage cars, and motorcycles. He was an avid movie buff and loved music. While in high school he played bass guitar in the popular local band The Livin' End. He especially enjoyed making new friends, volunteering at the Chatham Area Food Pantry and serving as a Salvation Army Bell Ringer. He is remembered as a friendly, kind and generous soul.
Bill is survived by his son, Christian Weaver of Alexandria, Virginia formerly of Broadalbin, New York, a sister Sally Lampson, brother-in-law Karl Lampson and niece Phoebe Lampson of Chatham Center, New York, and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 26 at 1:00 pm at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Freemont Street, Gloversville, New York. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill's memory to the Chatham Area Silent Food Pantry, Tracy Memorial Building, 77 Main Street, Chatham, New York 12037.
