Obituary of Floyd W. Hannis
Mr. Floyd W. Hannis, 82, passed away Thursday at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility. Formerly of Mayfield, Mr. Hannis had been a resident there four years. Born in Gloversville on April 19, 1927, he was the son of the late Orville and Alberta Kitchen Hannis. A graduate of Gloversville High School, Mr. Hannis also served his country in the Navy during WWII.
Upon his marriage to Ethel Fleischman Hannis on June 3, 1950, they moved to Scotia where he was employed by Sealtest in Schenectady for many years. The family subsequently moved to Johnstown in 1961. Floyd was employed as a color foreman at Karg Bros. Tannery in Johnstown for many years, earning the admiration and respect of co-workers for his knowledge and expertise. His work ethic and management skills were well known.
A devoted family person, Floyd was also active in community and civic affairs. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially family camping trips and riding motorcycles until just several years ago. He also bowled in several area leagues. Mr. Hannis was a member of the Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church and active in Boy Scouts of America for many years. He was very proud of his involvement with the Fulton County Civil Defense, where he was one of the beginning scuba diver instructors.
Survivors include his children; Daniel F. Debi Hannis of Mayfield, Diane Michael Pavlowski of Onsted, Michigan and Dale Thomas Hegenberger of Saratoga Springs. He is also survived by a step-sister Celia Phillips of Monmouth, Oregon, grandchildren; Adam, Nikalah and Jon Hannis, Michelle Bowman and Sean Pavlowski, and great grandchildren; Lexi Joy and Luke Pavlowski and Madelyn and Amelia Bowman. Mr. Hannis was pre-deceased by his wife Ethel, step-brother Alvin Putman and step-father Byron Putman.
Funeral services will be conducted 5 pm Sunday at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St. Broadalbin with the Rev. Dr. R. W. Williams presiding. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-5 pm prior to the service. Burial will be 9:30 am Monday at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY.
