Obituary of Rocco Colangelo

Mr. Rocco Colangelo, 85, of Arnold Ave, Amsterdam, NY passed away Friday morning August 7th, 2009 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. Born in Monteleone, Province of Foggia, Italy on August 16, 1923 a son of the late Paulo and Celestina Zambri Colangelo. He was educated in Italy and was an Italian Army Veteran of World War II serving in Europe and was a former prisoner of war. Mr. Colangelo came to the United States and Amsterdam in March of 1955. He worked for many years as a Chef at the former Johnny's Seafood Restaurant in Amsterdam and later at Marino's Restaurant in Schenectady. In his retirement Rocco helped at his family's restaurant Napoli's Pizzeria in Amsterdam. Rocco was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and watching sports especially the New York Yankees and wrestling. He also enjoyed making his homemade wine. He is survived by his loving wife Michela Lalla Colangelo whom he married on September 23rd, 1946. His children, Celeste Furchak of Ballston Lake, NY, Nancy Joseph D'Ambrosio of Perth, NY, Paul Colangelo of Amsterdam, Jane Michael Hughes of Amsterdam and Rocky Colangelo of Amsterdam. One brother, John Colangelo of Amsterdam. His beloved grandchildren, Nicholas Furchak; Armand, Anthony Jessica and Joey D'Ambrosio; Roxanne and Matthew Colangelo; David, Daniel and Michael Hughes; Michela, Maria Lucia and Joey Mosso. Great- grandchildren Gianna and Joseph D'Ambrosio. Nieces, Nephews and cousins also survive. Rocco was predeceased by a son Nicholas J. Colangelo on June 27th, 2008, a brother Carmelo Colangelo and a sister Rafaela Lallone. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 11, 2009 at 8:15A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15A.M. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East Main St. Amsterdam with Father John Medwid as celebrant and Father Pascal "Pat" Iannotti as con-celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Ft. Johnson, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday August 10, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
