Obituary of Joan E. Dalesandro

Mrs. Joan E. Dalesandro, of Henrietta Blvd, Amsterdam died unexpectedly on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was 77. Born on November 9, 1931 she was the only daughter of the late Anthony "Stretch" DiScenza and Elinor Ploss. A lifelong city resident, Joan was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She then went on to work for St. Mary's Hospital as a Hematologist for 40 years until her retirement. Joan enjoyed cooking, being outdoors and was an avid Yankees fan; but above all loved her family and her friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. On September 9, 1950 she was united in marriage to Frank A. ?Pinky? Dalesandro. That union lasted nearly 58 years until his passing on January 18, 2008. Survivors include her two children, David A. Dalesandro and his wife Eileen of Mechanicville, NY and Susan A. Dalesandro and her fiancé John Matt of Cooperstown, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A prayer service will be conducted on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 10:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Pascal Iannotti as celebrant. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 4 until 7 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
