Obituary of Stanton R. Hudson

Mr. Stanton R. Hudson, 85, of Marshville Road, Fort Plain died peacefully on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at home following a brief illness. Born on November 18, 1923 in Wagners Hollow he was the son of the late Raymond and Ida Kimball Hudson Sr. A lifelong area resident, Stanton was educated locally and left school to join the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home to begin his career as a dairy farmer. Stanton along with his wife Zelda owned and operated Zelson Farm until their retirement. Stanton was a "Jack of All Trades" and a true craftsman who loved woodworking. Stanton was a member of the OHM Holstein Club and the Mohawk Valley Earl Stock Memorial Post 3275 in Fort Plain. He also enjoyed his membership in the Beagle Club where he bred champion dogs for a time. Stanton was also an Avid Mets fan; above all, he loved life and his family. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert Hudson and Raymond Hudson Jr.; and a son in law, Jack Green. Survivors include his wife of nearly 67 years, the former Zelda VanDusen; five children, Elaine Cook of Fort Plain, Roger Janet Hudson of Fort Plain, Wayne Beverly Hudson of Fort Plain, Sandy Green of Center Point, IN, Bonnie Ron Smith Hazard of Tribes Hill; one sister, Bernice Maurice O' Steen of Jacksonville, FL; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 2 o'clock at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman presiding. Interment will full military honors will follow in Freysbush Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 4 until 7 Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Contributions in Mr. Hudson's memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
