Obituary of Thomas E. Horning

Thomas E. Horning, 83, of State Highway 30 N., passed away Sunday evening at Albany Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Fonda, NY on August 11, 1926, he was the son of the late John and Florence Jones Horning . He was a 1942 graduate of St. Luke's High School in Syracuse. Tom lived in this area since 1945. During World War II, he proudly served his country with the US Army in the Pacific Theater Of Operations. He was awarded the Victory Medal. A communicant of St. Stanislaus' Roman Catholic Church, he was a member of the former Sacred Heart Society. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to go camping, fishing and hunting. Tom was employed for twenty five years by Consolidated Diesel Electronics of Niskayuna and later as a welder for Mohawk Resource of Amsterdam. He worked lastly as a greeter for Wal-Mart in Amsterdam. In addition to his parents, his first wife, the former Veronica Podeszwa predeceased him in 1983. On May 18, 1985, he was united in marriage to Marguerite DeSorbo Lee. She survives as well as his son Gary Horning of Long Island; daughter, Bonnie Anthony Lekutis of Amsterdam; step daughter; Philomena Russell Williams of Fonda; step son, Douglas Susan Lee of Broadalbin; brother Fred Horning of Baldwinsville; three grandchildren; five step grandchildren; a great grandson and nieces and nephews. A service will take place on Wednesday at 11:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Fr. Pascal A. Iannotti, presiding. Interment will follow with military honors in St. Stanislaus' Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Tom's name to the Perth Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home office.
