Obituary of Geraldine O. Furman

Mrs. Geraldine O. Furman, 90, of Brandt Place, died peacefully, Saturday, September 26, 2009. Born in Fonda, New York on September 21, 1919 she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Bessie Snyder Dopp. A lifelong area resident, Geraldine was educated in Cranesville and Amsterdam schools. In 1955 she moved to Miami, Florida where she was employed with City national Bank until her retirement. She then moved back to Amsterdam to be closer with her family. Mrs. Furman was a former member of the First Reformed Church and enjoyed reading. Her greatest passion in life was her family. Although she had no children of her own, she looked after her nieces and nephews and took great pride in them. She will be sadly missed. Her family includes her four sisters, Doris Newkirk and Gladys Patterson of Amsterdam, NY, Marilyn Politano and her husband Frank of Kirkville, NY, and Barbara Bramer and her husband Edward of the Town of Florida; her father's widow, Mary Dopp of Amsterdam; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Albert J. Furman, Jr.; two sisters, Sylvia Barker and Virginia Muselbeck and four brothers, Lawrence, Donald, Gerald and Harold Dopp. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 11 o'clock at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Interment will take place in Maple Avenue Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 4 until 7 this evening Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
