Obituary of E. John McConnell

E. John Jack McConnell, 86, of Lutheran Haven in Oviedo, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness. He was born on February 11, 1923 in Amsterdam, N.Y. He was the only son of Edwin and Arbutus Nieman McConnell. He is survived by Miriam McConnell, his loving wife of 62 years, who lives at Lutheran Haven in Oviedo, Florida. Jack had a Mechanical Engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and was one of the founders of Redington Counters Inc. in Windsor, CT. where he worked for most of his life. He was also an active member and generous supporter of the Lutheran Church throughout his life. Jack was a member of the US Army and bravely served in World War II where he survived being a Prisoner of War for six months in Germany. He is survived by his loving wife, Miriam , in Oviedo, Florida, his son, John Laurel McConnell of Boston , MA, his daughters, Miriam Craig Boots of Madisonville, LA. and her twin, MarciaJeff Hardell of Dayville, CT., his granddaughter, Cheney Brad Harper and great granddaughters, Lyra and Willow Harper, his grandson, Ian McConnell and grandsons, Jim Hardell, Jay Hardell, and Jared Hardell. He was loved by his family as a wonderful father, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, role model and friend and was a wonderful Christian example to all who knew him. A Private Memorial Service will be held on Saturday October 31, 2009 at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY. Interment of cremated remains will follow at 11:30A.M. with full military honors at the Fairview Cemetery, Steadwell Ave, Amsterdam, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke?s Lutheran Church, 2021 West State Rd. 426, Oviedo, Florida 32765.
