Obituary of Marilyn Nethaway

Marilyn Nethaway, 66, of Fort Johnson Avenue, passed away suddenly Thursday evening at St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Amsterdam on October 13, 1942, the daughter of the late Atty. Anthony C. and Antoinette Slikas Stokna. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute and later dental hygienist school in Minnesota. She began her career as a hygienist for Dr. A. Morini and later worked in the same capacity for Dr. Gurme. A home maker, Marilyn was of the Roman Catholic faith. In her spare time, she volunteered for the Fort Johnson Youth Commission and enjoyed arts and crafts with her grandchildren. She also was a former member of the Fort Johnson Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. On July 16, 1967 she was united in marriage to Robert A. Nethaway Sr. He predeceased her on Nov. 29, 2000. On January 30th of this year, she also lost her son, Robert A. "Duke" Nethaway. Marilyn was the sister of the late Juanita Santa Maria. She leaves her loving daughter Michelle A. and her husband Vince Pettica of Amsterdam; her cherished grandchildren; Justin Robert and Abigail Jean Pettica and sisters and brothers in law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday from 4-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in the Hagaman Mills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Fort Johnson Youth Commission, in care of the funeral home office.
