Obituary of Emil W. Sievert
Emil W. Sievert, 82, formerly of Broadway, passed away peacefully Sunday morning at St. Mary's Hospital with his granddaughter at his side. He had been a resident of the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility for the past several years.
Born in Amsterdam on Sept. 20, 1927, he was the son of the late Emil and Helen Grans Sievert and he lived here his entire life. Emil assisted his father on the family's dairy farm as a young man, and later also at the former Rhodes Farm. During World War II, he proudly served his country as a private first class with the US Army Air Corps. In Japan. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Emil later worked for Lane Construction and retired in 1970 from the City Of Schenectady. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, his beloved wife, the former Norrine J. Osterhoudt, predeceased him on April 12, 2007.
His loving family includes his daughter Kathleen L. and her husband Mark Keeler of Amsterdam; granddaughters, Tracy Greenwald, Trisha Ferenz and Lindsey Nieuwkerk; great grandchildren; Christian Ferenz, Jenna Greenwald, Phoenix Nieuwkerk, Tyler Greenwald and Gillian Ferenz, and a sister, Joan Sisario of Florida.
A service to celebrate his life will take place Thursday at 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church, Golf Course Road, with the Rev. Greg DeSalvatore presiding. Interment will follow in the Hagaman Mills Cemetery, with military honors. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Contributions may be made in his name to the Wilkinson Care Facility in care of the funeral home office. Emil's family would like to express their appreciation to the staff for their care and concern.
