Obituary of Anthony Castiglione
Mr. Anthony Castiglione, age 91, of Gloversville, died Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Palatine Nursing Home.
He was born on March 17, 1918 in Gloversville, the son of the late John and Vincenza Troia Castiglione. A 1938 graduate of Gloversville High School, Tony joined the Army Air Corps during World War II and served as a B-17 Gunner Instructor from 1943 to 1946. He was a self-employed Master Watch and Clock Maker and also an Optician.
Tony was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, formerly St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church. He was an active member of the Fulton County YMCA where he enjoyed swimming and was a past board member. He always kept himself in good shape by excercising. He also was Sea Scout Leader at the Tryon School for boys. He volunteered as an optician several times with the Cataract Care group and traveled to the Dominican Republic where his skills were used to help the unfortunate there.
He is survived by his sister, Angeline Papa and her husband Dominic of Gloversville, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his six siblings: Vincent S. "James" Castiglione, Mario "Matty" Castiglione, Salvatore Castiglione, Louis Castiglione, Sr; Robert E. Castiglione and Anna Castiglione.
There will be no calling hours. A private Prayer Service will take palce at the convenience of the family at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville, with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating. Entombment will take place in the family mausoleum at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Fulton County YMCA, 213 Harrison St; Johnstown, NY 12095.
