Obituary of Virginia R. Shoop

Virginia R. Shoop, age 81, of Gloversville, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2009 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. Virginia was born in Northville on October 12, 1928, the daughter of the late Clarence and Elizabeth VanVranken. On October 30, 1948, she married John A. Shoop. Virginia was employed at Robison & Smith in Gloversville for 35 years. Along with working, Virginia always found time to raise her family. After her retirement, she became a member of the Ida McGinnis Senior Center. Virginia was known as "Grandma Pizza" by her family. She will be missed by all who knew her. Virginia is survived by her five children: Valerie Shoop of Gloversville, Judy Swart Steve of Mayfield, Jane Cancio of Galway, John J. Shoop Marie of Gloversville, and Barbara McGrattan Ed of Rochester; two sisters: Jean Bradt of Northville and Grace McCoy; thirteen grandchildren: Jeff, Chris, Steve, Andi, Adam, Jessica, Katlyn, Erin, Russell, Jeremy, Bridget, Megan, Kristen and one great grandchild, Marissa. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas VanVranken, and three sisters, Lillian Briggs, Evelyn Cramer, and Hilda Hufnail. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home; 51 Fremont Street; Gloversville.
