Obituary of Umberto Albert Morreale
Umberto "Albert" Morreale, 85, of New Street, passed away peacefully Sunday noon at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility after a lengthy illness.
Born in Amsterdam on May 28, 1924, he was the son of the late Antonio and Concetta Morreale. A lifelong resident, he was educated locally. He worked for a time at Mohasco and later for the General Electric Company in Schenectady as an inspector. He retired in 1987 after twenty years of service. During the Korean War, he proudly served his country in Germany with the US Army. Al was an avid rose gardener and was a member of the American Rose Society and the Schenectady Rose Society. He was honored for his work as a certified Horticultural Rose Judge and consultant in it's New York State District receiving a medal for outstanding service in 2004, and again in 2008 for his long and faithful service to the society. He was a parishioner of Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church and was a former member of it's Holy Name Society.
On August 26, 1967, he was united in marriage to the former Patricia A. Deal. They lost their dear son Daniel on September 8, 2007.
His loving wife survives as well as a brother; Frank Morreale of Sweet Home Oregon; sisters; Lena Rusik of Amsterdam; Jennie Vidulich of West Galway and Nancy Lasky of Amsterdam; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Al was also predeceased by brothers; Sam, Joseph, James and Stephen Morreale.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass Of Christian Burial which will be offered on Thursday at 9:15 am at Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Church. Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, celebrant. Please meet at church. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Church Memorial Fund or the Central Park Rose Garden, both in care of the funeral home office.
