So sorry to hear about Tom - he was a member of single squares for a brief time and a good friend of Thelma Elson who passed on June 21, 2008. We all enjoyed dancing with Tom and were shocked to hear of his passing. We only found out tonight 11/16/09 at a dance. He was a very nice person. Sorry for your loss.

To Tom's Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Tom's passing. I think I first met Tom in 1982, when I was still a beginning but avid! birder. Over the years since then, he was a stalwart participant on my Johnstown bird count, and he deserves a share of the credit for what eventually became a career in ornithology. I will miss him at this year's Christmas Count, where we will be thinking of him, hopefully now surrounded by bluebirds.
Peace,
Pam

Dear Aunt Betty, Shirley, and Peggy:
I have been thinking for a while of having you all to come to Florida in the winter. Now Tom. It saddens me greatly. I feel guilty for not acting before Carol and now Tom.Well at least Tom and Carol were down here to New Jersey a couple of times. We are in New Jersey we were flooded out this week by the big north easter. Marie had surgery on her leg last Tuesday and can't walk yet.So I send this note to explain my absence. I wanted to some way convey how I feel about your loss and I found this poem:
If We Could Bring Tom Back Again
If we could bring you back again,
For one more hour or day,
We’d express all our unspoken love;
We’d have countless things to say.
If we could bring you back again,
We’d say we treasured you,
And that your presence in our lives
Meant more than we ever knew.
If we could bring you back again,
To tell you what we should,
You’d know how much we miss you now,
And if we could, we would.

Dear Family of Tom,
It is with great sadness that I cannot be there with you today or tomorrow to grieve the loss of our friend Tom. I offer these words as my remembrance of him:
Remembering Tom
He was thumbs up
And hands down
A friend to life.
He named each bird in one note
Or the single wiggle of a wing.
I swear he tucked in each downy at night
And said prayers with the titmice.
I’d watch;
His hand appear from his hoodie;
His gentle fingers
Finesse feathers from the net;
His joyous eyes and ear-to-ear grin;
The warbler in his palm;
His palm like the sun,
Warmth that wrapped around
The body
Making the breast brighter.
He taught me;
To cradle a cardinal’s wing,
To hold a sparrow
Like a song,
To keep a bluebird next to my ear.
He was thumbs up
And hands down
A friend.

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Tom. I had no idea that he had been sick. I was a clerk in the Gloversville Gas Dept. at Niagara Mohawk and got to know what a nice person Tom was. He always had a friendly smile and a kind word for everyone. He was a real gentleman which something almost rare these days. Tom is someone who will be truly missed. My condolences to all his family.
