Obituary of Penelope M. Mycek

Mrs. Penelope M. "Penny" Mycek, 68, of Valley View Road, Amsterdam died suddenly on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Born in Amsterdam, NY she was the daughter of Helen Wozniak Januszewski and the late Edward Januszewski. A lifelong city resident, Penny attended local schools and was employed as an operator for New York Telephone Company and later as an operator and office assistant for Verizon until her retirement. Penny was proud member and fan of the Green Bay Packers and enjoyed BINGO at the Elks Lodge on Thursday nights. Penny was also involved in a Thoroughbred Horse Racing Partnership. She enjoyed going to the races, especially at Saratoga and Belmont. She also loved going to the Backstretch to watch the horse's workout. Family was the most important thing to Penny. Her home was the center for family gatherings, celebrations and Holidays. She had a keen eye for decorating and always made sure her home was properly decorated for each and every holiday. Penny was also a proud mother and grandmother and supported her family in every way. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her mother, Helen; her devoted husband, Daniel Mycek; her three children, Heather (John) Jacobs, Darryl (Nicola) Mycek and Jason (Melissa) Mycek; seven cherished grandchildren, "JD", Kaitlyn, Michael, Marisa, Nate, Julia and Eric; her brother in law, Dennis (Rina) Mycek; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Linda Billington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 11 o'clock at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50 Cornell Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 3, 2017 from 4 until 7p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Amsterdam.
