Obituary of Erna L. Brownell
Erna L. Hickok Brownell, 81 of Johnstown, formerly of Gloversville, died peacefully and was healed on November 20, 2009 at home after a brief illness.
She was born March 31, 1928 in Perth, the daughter of Wesley and Harriet Richards Hickok. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to caring for others and making people laugh. .
During her life, she worked for Johnstown Knit as a machine operator. In 1969 she was employed by Nathan Littauer Hospital and worked as a dietary aid for 20 years. Upon retirement she found the need to interact with others and became a part time food service worker for the Greater Johnstown School District at Knox from 1990 until August of this year. She enjoyed family and was the endless supplier of the cookies for every important get together. Spending time with great grandchildren Garret, Amoreena, Maria, Noah, Siyanna, and Lincoln gave her great joy.
Erna is survived by three daughters: Berneice Brownell of Eldred, Bonnylee Pavlick Rudy of Broadalbin and Sherry Ermie Jim of Johnstown; two sisters: Beatrice Frederick and Christina Hickok and two brothers: Len Hickok and Donald Hickok. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren:Christopher Kroup Heather, Jeremiah Kroup Angela, Sarah Hayes Ricky, Tom Pavlick Dawn, Rudy Sala, Neal Longe Lisa, Jessica Longe Brian, Thomas Ermie Tina, Christina Ermie and Jessica Parillo John. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond F. Brownell; three brothers: Leo, Earl, Ace and three sisters: Gladys, Joyce, and Eleanor.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service Sunday, November 22 at 3 p.m. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Cremation took place at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. A graveside service will be Monday, November 23 at 10 a.m. at Perth Cemetery.
