Obituary of Mary J. Martin
Mary J. Martin, 94, of Second Ave, Fonda, NY, formerly of Amsterdam, passed away Thursday December 24, 2009 at her daughters home.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on February 19, 1915 a daughter of Antonio and Michelina Decressci Pallone. She was a lifelong Amsterdam area resident and attended local schools.
Mary worked for many years as a seamstress for the former Chalmers Knitting Mill and the former Scafidi?s Mohican Market both in Amsterdam. Mrs. Martin was also a homemaker. Mary enjoyed crocheting, cooking and especially baking for her family and friends. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was a member of the Mt. Carmel Bocce League for many years.
She married Arnold J. Martin on October 19, 1946. He passed away in 1980. Mrs. Martin is survived by three sons, Richard Martin of Niskayuna, Michael Martin Linda Ross of Canandaigua and Robert Martin Betsy of Amsterdam. One daughter, Annette Makacynas David of Tribes Hill. Two sisters, Alvida Messineo of Amsterdam and Marie Vecchio Santo of Amsterdam. Nine grandchildren, Jason and Colleen Martin, Paul and April Martin, Andrew, Anthony and Christian Martin, Ashleigh and Kathryn Makacynas. Two great grandchildren, Brooke and Kate Martin. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Mary was preceded in death by brothers Malone, Silvio and Dominick Pallone and sisters, Angelina, Leona, Fenisia, and Silvia Pallone and a grandson Kristian Arnold Makacynas.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday December 28, 2009 at 9:15A.M. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, St. John St. Amsterdam with Rev. Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Interment of Cremated Remains will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday December 27, 2009 from 3:00PM to 5:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer?s Disease and Related Disorders or to Community Hospice of Amsterdam.
