Obituary of Robert G. Blinsinger

Robert G. Blinsinger, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 23, 1932 in Amsterdam to the late Stephen and Mary Ward Blinsinger; Bob was lifelong resident of Amsterdam, Bob currently moved to Broadalbin with his Wife, Sue, to be closer to his daughter. A history teacher for the Greater Amsterdam School District, Theodore Roosevelt Jr. High and currently Wilbur H. Lynch; Bob retired after 30 years in 1990. Bob was a proud United States Air Force Veteran, serving his country from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Bob went on to graduate from Siena College then went on to get his Master's degree from the College of St. Rose. After his retirement, Bob continued to work part time for Liberty, where he would work as a job coach. A devoted Catholic, Bob was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church, Amsterdam and currently of St. Joseph's, Broadalbin. He was a member of the Amsterdam Teachers Association, as well as a member of the Board of Education. Bob was an avid golfer, NY Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan. In his down time he loved to tend to his garden and spend time with his Yorkie, Roxy. Bob had a love for traveling; California, Hawaii, Bahamas and Cape Cod were a few of his favorite places. Above all, Bob's favorite thing was spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend; he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his loving family, the love of his life, his wife of 58 years, Assunta (Sue) Natoli Blinsinger, whom he wed on Sept. 28, 1958; children, Patricia Sawyer (Edward), Stephen Blinsinger and Robert Blinsinger (Ellen); brothers, Jerry and David Blinsinger; sister, Nola Szypula; grandchildren, Kelli Sawyer, Daniel Sawyer and Robert K. Blinsinger. Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brothers, Richard and Ronald Blinsinger and his sister, Jeanette Montagnino. Calling hours for Bob will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 4pm until 7pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. A prayer service will be held on Friday at 9:45am at the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam with Fr. Jeffrey L'Arche officiating and Rev. Jun Segura Co-officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their gratitude for the loving compassionate care provided by Dr. Robert Droege, Dr. Denis Manor and Dr. Stephen Wrzesinski over the years.
