Obituary of Albert J. Farrington
Mr. Albert J. "Duke" Farrington, age 93, of Gloversville, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, with his loving family at his side.
He was born in Toronto, Canada on January 11, 1916, the son of the late James and Millicent Shakespeare Farrington. He and his wife, Dorothy Dailey Farrington, were winter residents of Clearwater, Florida for the past 35 years. Albert "Duke" Farrington proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was also a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion in the early thirties and was later drafted by the New York Yankees as a left-handed pitcher. His baseball career was short-lived due to an arm injury. He still holds the record for winning the most consecutive baseball games. He went on to be a successful life insurance agent for New York Life for over 55 years ending his career as a life-time member of The Million Dollar Round Table. He enjoyed boating, golfing, tennis, traveling and being with family and friends.
During his lifetime he was an entrepreneur of building and operating a successful motel and restaurant in Albany known as The Northway Inn. He also developed several patents, including Swim-Pak and Thermal-Core.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Farrington was predeceased by his son, Guy Farrington; daughter, Susan Lubiniecki; sister, Millicent Fagan and brothers, Gordon and Robert Farrington. His loving family includes five children, James Farrington Debbie of Colonie, Daniel Farrington Rosalie of Rotterdam Junction, Lynn DeLorenzo Frank of Schenectady, Albert Farrington Sue of Clifton Park and Mark Farrington Valerie of Mayfield and a brother, David Farrington Ruth of Michigan. He was the grandfather of 14 grandchildren, Kelly Farrington, Julie Gansle, Kristy Mantei, Kim Lubiniecki, Chad Farrington, Jeffrey Farrington, Michele Sperber, Amy Gadus, Melissa Daviero, Frank DeLorenzo, Ryan DeLorenzo, Jennie Rogers, Rene Farrington and Benjamin Farrington. 13 great-grandchildren also survive.
There will be no calling hours. A private Prayer Service will take place at the convenience of the family at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Memory's Garden, Colonie.
