Obituary of Luis A. Rivera Serrano

Mr. Luis A. Rivera Serrano, 75, of Amsterdam died peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital following a brief illness. Born on January 4, 1935 in Corozal, Puerto Rico he was the son of the late Pablo and Josephina Rivera Velez. Luis immigrated to the United Stated in pursuit of the "American Dream." He worked for over 30 years until his retirement from Metropolis Metal Spinning & Stamping Company in New York City. Luis will be remembered as a hard worker and a family man. He will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Carmen Z. Rivera; four children, Dina Jose Arroyo, Manula Freddy Rodriguez, Mildred Peter Jones and Jesus Valerie Rivera, all of Amsterdam; his beloved brother Oscar Rivera of Florida; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Services will be conducted Today, January 14, 2010 at 3 o'clock at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. A calling hour will precede the service beginning at 2 o'clock. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 11 o'clock at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. John Medwid as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
