Obituary of Frederick Bianchi
Frederick Bianchi, age 87, formerly of Knollwood Avenue, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson R.H.C.F. with his family at his side.
Born on September 15, 1922 in Amsterdam, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Cavaliere Bianchi. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools, graduating from Wilbur H. Lynch High School. With the onset of World War II, Fred enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served his country.
On February 20, 1944 he was united in marriage to the former Palma Biasi. That union lasted sixty years until her passing on February 24, 2005. He was also predeceased by a brother, Joseph.
He was employed by the Naval Supply Depot in Scotia, was a licensed barber, and served as Montgomery County Sealer of Weights and Measures until his retirement in 1990. Upon retiring, he was the "morning man" at Joe the Pro's golf shop at the Amsterdam Muni.
Freddy enjoyed golfing, trout fishing, poker and the Saratoga Flat Track, but most of all he loved his family.
He was an honorary life member of Council 209, Knights of Columbus, and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Frank "Chick" Bianchi Barbara of Hagaman, NY and David Bianchi Fran of Palmdale, CA; a brother, John Bianchi Evelyn of Amsterdam, NY; four grandchildren: Alison, Eric, Katie and Nicholas Bianchi; a niece, four nephews and several cousins.
A prayer service will take place Saturday at 8:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church with Fr. Pascal A. Iannotti, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday from 4-6 pm at the funeral home. Members of Knights of Columbus will gather for prayers at 5:45 pm Friday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in his memory to St. Mary's Foundation for the Wilkinson Library in care of the funeral home office.
