Obituary of Peter J. Sajta

Peter J. Sajta, 70, of Shuttleworth Avenue, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at the Fulton Center in Gloversville after a long illness. Born October 11, 1946 in Amsterdam, New York he was the son of the late John P. and Evelyn Conover Sajta. He graduated in 1964 from the Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Three days after graduation Pete enlisted into the US Navy where he served in the Vietnam War as an Aviation Mechanic from 1964 until being honorably discharged in 1967. He first worked at Electro-Metrics, later J&B Auto, Parsons and John C. Miller, and Concordia Theological Seminary of Ft. Wayne, Ind. as a mechanic. He retired as a Maintenance Supervisor for Carl Touhey Associates in Albany. Pete was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed auto racing. For over 50 years he worked and attended the Fonda Speedway. In 1998 he traveled with Jeff Spraker and his racing team for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Racing series Nationwide. At one time he bowled with several Amsterdam Leagues and the Polish League. His true passion was building model airplanes. He was a member of the "Lazy 8" and he displayed many of his airplanes at the Aerospace Museum in Glenville. Pete was able to visit the Washington D.C. Veteran Monuments through the Honor Flight out of Albany. Pete always liked to sing "You Are My Sunshine" to his granddaughter Monika. On June 13, 1970 he married the former JoAnn M. Buczek. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter, Lisa Marie (Andrzej) Bolaszewski of Amsterdam; a sister, Patricia Masto of Vails Mills; two grandchildren, Mikolaj Bolaszewski and Monika Bolaszewska; mother-in-law, Isabel Buczek of Amsterdam; sister-in-law Priscilla (Douglas) French of Loveland, CO.; a godson; Joseph French of Greeley, CO.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Pete was predeceased by his brother, Timothy Sajta and his sister, Elizabeth Teller. A memorial service followed by Military Honors will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schylerville, NY. Memorial Contributions may be made in Pete's memory to a Scholarship Fund for his granddaughter Monika Bolaszewska.
