Elmer Rieth

Obituary of Elmer E. Rieth

Mr. Elmer E. Rieth, 83, of Gloversville, passed away Friday at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Mr. Rieth was born February 19, 1926 in Gloversville. He was the son of the late William and Irene Longfritz Rieth. He attended Gloversville High School and was a proud Naval veteran of WWII serving from 1944-46. Mr. Rieth participated in the Invasion of Normandy and received the European Theater Medal with one star and the American Theater medal. Upon discharge from the Navy, Elmer began his devoted employment with Robison & Smith spanning 48 years. He retired as route supervisor in 1991. Elmer's love of the Lord guided him every day. He was a communicant of the Church of the Holy Spirit. He lived fully, relishing each moment of his life with his family. A former member of the Eagles Lodge and the Knights of Columbus, Elmer was also a past president of the Holy Name Society at the former St. Francis de Sales Church. He lived a very full hard-working satisfying life, devoted to his family and an avid N.Y Giants and Notre Dame fan. Following his retirement, Elmer walked up to ten miles a day making many friends along the way, especially his very special "second family" the Meyers family. Elmer had always given and added to our lives far more than we would ever have been able to give him back. He will be truly missed. He is survived by his wife Flora Pecorino Rieth of Gloversville whom he married April 22, 1950. Elmer is also survived by his children, Tony Karen Rieth of Loudonville and Rosalie Tom Ault of Glenville. His surviving sisters are Eleanor Dominic Donofrio of Gloversville and Evelyn Rieth of Boston, MA. Two grandchildren survive, Erin Rieth and Brian Rieth, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Rieth was pre-deceased by two brothers, Victor Rieth and Clayton A. Rieth and two sisters, Dorothy Rieth and Bessie Bochacek. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am Tuesday at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 149 S. Main Street, Gloversville with Reverend Donald Czelusniak, Pastor, as celebrant. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 9am to 10:30 am at the Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Streeet, Gloversville prior to the Mass. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302.
