Obituary of Congetta M. Putnam
Mrs. Congetta M. "Connie" Putnam, age 84 of Gloversville, died Sunday, February 14, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home, Gloversville.
She was born July 22, 1925 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Perrella Perna. She worked at the family-owned Louis Perna Glove Shop, Balzano Glove Company and Lohse Florist. She then moved to Durham, NC for several years and returned to Gloversville in 1977. She was employed at Peck's Flowers and as an office clerk at Skiff's Dairy for over 20 years until her retirement.
Mrs. Putnam was a member of The Church of the Holy Spirit and its Sisters of the Holy Spirit formerly Sacred Heart Church and its Catholic Daughters and Rosary Society and the 55 Plus Senior Citizens Club.
She was married to Robert G. Putnam on October 27, 1951. Mr. Putnam died February 12, 1992. Survivors include two sons, Robert G. Putnam, Jr. Cindy of Syracuse and Donald J. Putnam Shelley of Columbia, MS; nine brothers and sisters: Theresa Piazza Joseph of Troy, Pasquale Perna Lois of Gloversville, Virginia Perna of Texas, Donald Perna Alva of Johnstown, Fred Perna Mary of Johnstown, Robert Perna Coreen of Watervliet, David Perna of Fort Plain, Raymond Perna Carol of Gloversville and Linda Mary Cook David of Texas; five grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Congetta was preceded in death by her brothers, Louis Perna, Jr. and Richard Perna, and by her sister, Adora Perna Ort.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 17 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted 9:15 a.m. Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of the Holy Spirit, Gloversville. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place in the spring at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
