Obituary of Eugene McDonald
Eugene McDonald, 67, formerly of East Main St., Fonda, died peacefully Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home where he has resided for the past two years. He was born in Watervliet, NY February 18, 1943 a son of the late Wilbur and Arietta Ellsworth McDonald, Sr.
Eugene was a life resident of the area and attended schools in the Cohoes area. Following high school, he served his country with the US Army prior to the Vietnam War era. He was of Roman Catholic faith and was a former communicant of St. Casimir's Church in Amsterdam. Eugene enjoyed hunting, fishing and long rides in the country and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
His loving family includes his wife Shirley Baker McDonald of Fonda, his children Matthew McDonald of Amsterdam, Jaime Hayes and husband John of Broadalbin, and Shannon Kissinger and husband Larry of Galway, his brother Lesley McDonald and wife Dorothea of St. Regis, his sister Mary Blackmer and husband Roy of Florida, his step-daughter Nancy VanAvery of Fonda, his grandchildren Kateri and Kaitlyn Hayes of Broadalbin, John Hayes, Jr. of Broadalbin, and Jerimiah Lenox of Illinois, his step-grandchildren Gary Cionek of Fonda, Bryan, Justice and Clayton LaPorte of Fonda and Emma Flores of Fonda, and his mother-in-law Helen Baker of Johnstown.
In addition to his parents, Eugene was predeceased by two brothers Wilbur McDonald, Jr. and Barton McDonald.
Services will be at 1:00PM on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY 12072 with Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams, officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends prior to services on Saturday from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the funeral home.
