Obituary of Ethel Mae Manclow

Mrs. Ethel Mae Manclow, 93, formerly of Abbott Street, Fort Plain, NY died peacefully on Monday, March 8, 2010 at the St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on November 29, 1916 in Canajoharie, NY she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Sylvia Smith Muchmore. Mrs. Manclow moved to West Virginia at the age of 7 with her family. She lived in Wellsburg where she resided for 11 years, and following High School she attended West Liberty State Teachers College. She moved back to the area and worked for Beech Nut and finally Central National Bank where she retired in 1978. An accomplished artist, Mrs. Manclow enjoyed using watercolor and oil paints. She was also an active musician who enjoyed singing. She was a member of the Mohawk Valley Chorus and was also an active member of the United Methodist Church of Fort Plain, and its choir. Mrs. Manclow was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Fort Plain Chapter and served as the Chaplain for many years. On December 31, 1941 she was united in marriage to Howard Manclow. That union lasted nearly 45 years until his passing on April 20, 1987. She was also predeceased by a son, Clayton Allen Manclow on March 23, 1969. Survivors include her son A. David Manclow and his wife Sue of Fort Plain, NY; three grandchildren, Jason Manclow of Greenwood Lake, NY, Michael Bower of Fort Plain, NY and Susanne Ketring and her husband Richard of Sparks, NV; two great grandsons, Christopher Bower and Matthew Ketring. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 11 o'clock at Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with the Rev. Alan Griffith presiding. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 4 until 7p.m. this eveningWednesday, March 10, 2010 at the funeral home. Interment will take place at a later date in the Fort Plain Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center or the United Methodist Church of Fort Plain.
