Obituary of Gertrude E. Waner
Gertrude E. Waner, 98, formerly of Fort Plain and St. Johnsville, NY and most recently of Salem, NY, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Indian River Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Granville, NY with her loving family by her side. She was born in Stone Arabia, NY September 26, 1911 a daughter of the late Martin and Marie Fonda Shults.
Gertrude resided in Fort Plain and in St. Johnsville for most of her life and was a graduate of Fort Plain High School. In earlier years she enjoyed her role as a 4-H Leader and as a former Sunday school teacher at Fort Plain Reformed Church where she was a long time member. She married Edward V. Waner of St. Johnsville in September of 1967. He predeceased her in March of 1983.
Gertrude was a loving home maker who enjoyed caring for her family. She also loved to sew, read, cook and spend time with loved ones. In the year 2000, Gertrude moved to Salem, NY to reside with her daughter and spend the remainder of her years closer to family. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
Her loving family includes her daughter Marie M. Conrad and husband James R. Conrad of Salem, her grandson Thomas C. Woods of Salem, her great-granddaughter Brittani Dawn Woods of White Creek, and her sister Margaret Bollen of Fort Plain. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Gertrude was predeceased by her brothers Manly, Martin and Charles Shults.
A special thank you to the staff, nurses and doctors of the B-Wing at Indian River Nursing Home and of 4-West at Glens Falls Hospital for all of the loving and compassionate care given to Gertrude during her time at both facilities.
Services will be at 2:00PM on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Fort Plain Reformed Church, 165 Canal Street, Fort Plain, NY with Rev. Nancy Ryan, officiating.
Interment will follow in Fort Plain Cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends prior to services on Tuesday from 1:00 to 2:00PM at the church.
