Obituary of Veryl Ellithorpe
Veryl "Tink" Ellithorpe, 75, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully March 24, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
He was born April 25, 1934 in Mayfield, the son of the late Cecil and Elsie Edwards Ellithorpe.
Tink was a graduate of Mayfield Central School, Class of 1953.
He was united in marriage on September 9, 1956 to the former Donna Berard, who survives.
Tink worked as a meat cutter for many years at Ellithorpe's Market, Loblaws and Price Chopper. He was also employed at N.A. Taylor Company until his retirement in 1990 due to rheumatoid arthritis. He was an active member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church in Gloversville, serving as past President of the Board of Trustees and the Thursday Morning Men. Tink also served the Pleasant Square Volunteer Fire Department for thirty plus years. He was awarded Fireman of the Year in 2007 and served as Director until the time of his passing.
He enjoyed visiting with his neighbors and touring around on his scooter. Tink was also an avid Mets fan. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his beloved wife, Donna, he is survived by two sons: Mark Ellithorpe Lori of Gloversville and Andrew Ellithorpe Catherine of Suffield, CT; four grandchildren: Matthew, Emily, Margaret and Christopher; a brother, Wayne EllithorpeAnnette of Mesa, AZ; a sister, Joyce Hart Orrin of Amsterdam; a former daughter-in-law, Jayne and many caring nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four brothers: John "Bob" Ellithorpe, Delos "Punk" Ellithorpe, Cecil "Pete" Ellithorpe and Marian "Runt" Ellithorpe.
Family and friends may call for a memorial visitation on Monday, March 29 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville from 4 to7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 30 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Chris Hamm presiding. Interment will be at Union Rural Cemetery in Mayfield. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Smith, Don Patch, Joe Vavrick, Jerry Wemple, John Fritzen, Jim Wilkins, Gene Buyce, Cecil Van Nostrand, Sonny Seeley, Bill Maxon and Jack Marino. Donations may be made in Tink's memory to the North Main Street United Methodist Church, 316 North Main Street, Gloversville, NY 12078, the Pleasant Square Volunteer Fire Department, 135 Easterly Street, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
