Obituary of Justin Michael Albanese

Justin M. Albanese, 28, of Gloversville, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Mountain Valley Hospice House, after an almost 2-year struggle with synovial sarcoma. Justin, affectionately known as "Albo," was a 1999 graduate of Gloversville High School and attended St. Lawrence University. Prior to his illness, he was employed at the former Alban Hills Golf Course, as well as Fox Run Golf Course. Justin was a spectacular golfer, known as an exceptionally long-ball hitter and a champion alpine skier. Locally he won several accolades in both sports, including the 1998 Section II Foothills Council low medalist honors, as a member of the GHS golf team. Of particular note was at age 10, he made a hole-in-one on the third hole of the former Alban Hills Golf Course and tied with his brother, Jordan Albanese, as finalists for the 2007 Pinebrook Golf Club course Championship. As an alpine ski racer, he qualified for several NYS/USSA state championship ski races. He was a member of the 1996 NYS High School Championship Alpine Ski team, placing sixth overall in giant slalom. Justin's proudest accomplishment was winning the 1997 Royal Mountain Michelob Light Giant Slalom Ski Championship. He loved his family and had great friends and especially enjoyed Polish horseshoes, barbequing, fishing with his friend, Francois, and was an avid Phish fan. Justin's untimely passing has already left a tremendous void in the lives of those who remain to mourn him. Survivors include his faithful companion, Jack Russell Terrier Mr. Tuffy Burns; his loving parents, Attorney Michael M. and Kimberly R. Wadsworth Albanese of Gloversville; his brother, Jordan P. Albanese and his fianc , Alison DiMarco, of Gloversville; his paternal grandparents, former Fulton County Judge and Surrogate, the Hon. Mario M. and Patricia J. Albanese, also of Gloversville; his maternal grandmother, Marie R. Giardino Wadsworth Graves and her husband, Burton of Naples, Florida; two aunts, Nadine C. McDermott and her husband, Michael of Valley Cottage, NY and Ms. Nanette J. Albanese-Morrey of Pearl River, NY; his uncle, William P. Albanese of North Palm Beach, Florida; two cousins, Gabriella P. Morrey and Luke M. Albanese; numerous other relatives and an innumerable amount of loyal and devoted friends, many who helped care for him throughout his illness. Family and friends are invited for viewing and to pay respects on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, from 4 8 pm. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 2, 2010 @ 11 am at Prospect Hill Cemetery East, Kingsboro Avenue, Gloversville.
