Obituary of Edward E. Mikenas
Mr. Edward E. Mikenas, Sr., 90, formerly of Fort Johnson Avenue, Fort Johnson, NY died peacefully of natural causes on Monday, April 5, 2010 at the Palatine Nursing Home. Born on October 10, 1919 he was the son of the late John and Zofia Gritenas Mikenas, Sr.
A lifelong area resident, Edward attended local schools and served in the United States Army Air Corps. as a Sergeant. Upon his return to the area, he began employment with General Electric as a draftsman. He attended the University of Michigan for engineering.
Mr. Mikenas was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the YMCA and the Schenectady Draftsman Association. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Anthony, John and Walter Mikenas; a sister Sofia Neary; and an infant son, Eric Mikenas.
Survivors include his sons Edward E. Mikenas, Jr. and his wife LuAnn of Virginia and Elden H. Mikenas of Macedon, NY; two daughters, Elizabeth J. Smith and her husband Jonathan of Bethel, ME and Elaine M. Verderese and her husband Joseph M. of Amsterdam, NY; a sister, Nanette DuBarry of Palatine Bridge, NY; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 11 o?clock at the United Methodist Church, 347 Golf Course Road, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. Greg DeSalvatore presiding. A calling hour will he held prior to the service beginning at 10 o? clock at the church. Interment will follow in Chuctanunda Cemetery with military honors. Contributions in his memory may be made to the United Methodist Church, or the YMCA.
