Obituary of Winifred V. Zakowski

Winifred V. Zakowski, 83, of Schenectady died peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2017 surrounded by her family. Born in Amsterdam, NY on March 6, 1934 she was the daughter of the late William and Genevieve Nejfak Zakowski. A lifelong area resident, Winifred graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She started her career at the Knolls Atomic Power Lab, went on to become an EKG/ EEG Technician at Albany Medical Center, the EKG lab manager at Hillcrest Hospital in Pittsfield, MA, and also worked at NYS Tax Dept. Her hobbies included watching soccer, Star Trek and PBS; reading, playing cards with the family on the holidays, and going to bingo and the casinos. She also volunteered for many years at the polls on Election Day. She was of the Catholic faith. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her four children: Robin Quintin (Terence) of Schenectady, Jeffrey Capullo (Mary) of Schenectady, Zale Benton (Kenneth) of Gloversville, and Tracy Capullo of Washington, D.C.; three siblings, John Zakowski (Karen), Edward Zakowski (Patricia), of CT, and Barbara Small (George) of Mayfield; Her loving grandchildren, Justin Quintin of MA, Jared Quintin of FL, Nicole Benton Knopp (Paul) of MD, Brian Benton of Gloversville, Jessica Benton of Utica, Christina Capullo of Schenectady, Valerie Sturtevant (Dan) of MA and two great- grandchildren, Isaiah Gonzalez and Asher Knopp; nieces, nephews and cousins. Winifred was predeceased by her granddaughter Megan Lyn Benton. The family would like to thank the staff at Fulton Center. Their kindness and compassion for Win was sincerely appreciated. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 1p.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis presiding. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours will be held prior to the service, from 11a.m. to 1p.m. at the funeral home.
