Obituary of William Seward Pilchen
William Seward Pilchen, 83, of Ovett, Miss., a former resident of Amsterdam, passed away April 11, 2010 at the Regency/ Forest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Ms.
Born Feb. 18, 1927 in Amsterdam, the son of the late Christopher and Margaret Costello Pilchen, he was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. After returning from the service, he worked for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance where he retired from in 1987. He was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 American Legion, St Mary's Alumni Assoc. and parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Following his move to Mississippi in 1994, he became a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.
On October 7, 1975, he married Irene Syzdek Pilchen, who survives.
He is also survived by a step-daughter, Eileen Capogna and his son-in-law Robert Hyden; three grandchildren; Jessica Collins of Los Angeles, Ca., Senior Master Sgt. Zachary Capogna and wife Gretchen of Sedelia, MO., and Chad Capogna of Seattle, WA.; great grandchildren; Mackenzie, Kyle, Riley and Quincy Capogna; nephew Richard Crossman and nieces Marilyn Sanders and Janet LaCross as well as several grand- nieces and grandnephews of Michigan. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a step-daughter Kate Collins-Hyden, a brother, Robert Pilchen and a sister Margarite Peg Crossman.
Services were at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
