Obituary of Donald D. Mochrie

Donald D. Mochrie, 92, of State Hwy 30, Amsterdam, died peacefully Sunday, April 18, 2010 at E.L. Wilkinson, Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. He was born in Amsterdam June 26, 1917 son of the late Peter and Margaret Daye Mochrie. Donald was a life resident of the area and was of Roman Catholic faith. Following high school he served his country as a Technical Sergeant with the US ARMY during WWII. While overseas, he married the former Maria Vautrain in 1945. Following his Honorable Discharge from the ARMY, Donald worked for the US Postal Service in Amsterdam, retiring as the Post Master of that branch. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post#701 in Amsterdam and enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family. His loving family includes his wife of nearly 65 years, Maria L. Mochrie of Rexford, NY and his sons Peter Mochrie and wife Mary of Rexford, NY and Brian Mochrie and wife Elaine of Sylvan Beach, NY. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. Committal Prayers with full Military Honors will be at 10:00AM on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871. The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00PM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
