My wife Nancy and I send our deepest sympathies to all of you. Sophie was a fine and thoughtful person. I have many fine memories of her and her caring way.
It seems like yesterday that she was helping out in our grade school activities, taking us swimming to VanDenburgh Point, or keeping a watchful eye on us as we sledded down Green St. hill in the winter.
I also remember having Soph show up to the house to get me one summer night because we kids had scattered leather scraps from a waste can behind Christie's shop. We had spread them around the First Ave. area. I don't remember who besides Bob were involved, but I know I must have been a big, not only in size, part of it. She would always make sure the First Ave. gang had fun, but also that we toed the mark.
And how can we forget those New Year's Eve buffets she put on every year at the Grill.
She was a grand lady and will be sadly missed.
