Obituary of Donald J. Waite
Donald J. Waite, age 81, of Mayfield, died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home, following a brief illness.
He was born June 18, 1928 in Johnstown, the son of the late Daniel and Dorothy Myers Waite. He served in the Army Air Corps for three years during World War II. From 1962 to 1968 he owned and operated Don's Bakery Service in Johnstown. He later was a sales agent for Prudential Insurance Company of Schenectady from 1968 to 1975. He was employed by Robison & Smith in Gloversville as a route salesman from 1975 until his retirement in 1993.
Mr. Waite was a member of the Church of The Holy Spirit in Gloversville. He played the keyboard in a band called "A touch of Class" and also played for residents of nursing homes both locally and in the Capital District until his recent illness.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Madelene Martin Waite of Mayfield; also four children: Michaelette Waite of Gloversville, Martin Waite Cathy of Johnstown, Brenda Jacobson of Mayfield and Bruce Waite of Broadalbin; a brother, James Waite Marion of Georgia; five grandchildren: Erica Molina of Texas, Amanda Jacobson and Kristi Jacobson of Mayfield, Brian Waite of North Carolina and Cody Waite of Broadalbin.
A private graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family at Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin, with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution to the charity of your choice.
