Obituary of Walter Charles Longleway
Walter Charles Longleway, 65, of Cleveland Avenue, died peacefully Sunday morning, June 13, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Newburgh, NY March 4, 1945 son of the late Walter N. and Helen Armstrong Longleway.
Mr. Longleway was raised in Herkimer and Farmingdale New York and attended schools in those areas. In 1963 he enlisted with the US ARMY during the Vietnam War era serving overseas. He was a decorated officer, receiving numerous medals and awards during his military career, retiring in 1983.
On March 27, 1969 he was united in marriage to the former Chun Cha Cho in South Korea. After moving back to the United States the couple lived in different areas with their family including Romulus, NY and Amsterdam, NY. He worked as a Supervising Engineering Technician for Watervliet Arsenal in Watervliet. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved the water and enjoyed fishing whenever possible.
His loving family includes his wife of over 41 years, Chun Cha Longleway of Amsterdam his daughters Terry David Iddings of Geneva, NY and Gerry Shane Williams of Portland, TN, his granddaughters Olivia Iddings and Alisa Williams, his sisters Regina Garcia Jim Griffith of Blythe, CA and Jean Scott of Blythe, CA and his aunt and godmother Jean Longleway of Albany. One nephew and three nieces also survive. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an aunt, Mary Elizabeth Longleway.
Graveside services will be at 2:00PM on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Calvary Cemetery in Herkimer with full military honors. Visitation will be private for his family.
