Obituary of Harold Thompson
Mr. Harold Thompson Sr., 87, of Gloversville, passed away Friday June 18, 2010 at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Mr, Thompson was born July 13, 1922 in Ft. Plain, son of the late Clarence and Pearl Dorman Thompson. Educated in Ft. Plain schools, Mr. Thompson has lived in Gloversville all his adult life. An Army veteran, he served in China, Burma and India during W W Two.
A dedicated employee of the Gloversville Water Department for 25 years, Harold then enjoyed another 18 years with the Gloversville Highway Department, before finishing his active working career with Callanan Industries in Rotterdam, where he was employed for 7 years.
Harold had many hobbies. He especially loved the outdoors, camping hunting and hiking. He cherished the many experiences with his grandchildren, whatever the occasion. Harold held a deep passion for automobile engines. He could usually be found tinkering with an engine for family or friend, and usually managed to fix it right. His gentle, kind approach will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife Eileen Quinn Thompson of Gloversville whom he married June 15, 1947. Additional survivors include his son Harold "Bud" Thompson Jr. and his wife Maryellen of Corinth, a brother Donald Thompson, a sister Isabelle Walter both of Gloversville and his grandchildren; Daniel Thompson of Chestertown, Catherine Thompson of Vermont and Annemarie Agnew and her husband Herbert of Chappen, S. Carolina. Mr. Thompson is also survived by a great grandson; Quinn Agnew, a brother-in-law; James Quinn and his wife Ruth of Gloversville, several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a daughter Mary Thompson and a brother, Clarence Thompson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 10 am at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville. With Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4-7 pm. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
