Obituary of Betty M. Cole
Mrs. Betty M. Cole of Gloversville, passed away on Saturday, June 19 after a long illness. Her family was at her side. Betty was born July 12, 1924 in Broadalbin, N.Y. to Edgar V. and Bessie Seeley Gillis. She attended Amsterdam Schools. One May 10, 1942 she married the late Cortland E. Cole, they moved from Amsterdam to Gloversville in 1951. Together they raised three daughters; Bettelynn Atty Donald of Johnstown, Donna Lee John of Gloversville and Janice Collis David of Largo, Florida. "Corky" passed away October 1, 1995.
For several years Betty was employed by NYS Department of Mental Hygiene at "The Working Girls Home" Coloney, in Gloversville. She retired in 1969 due to ill health. In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Jean Langdon; two brothers, Charles Gillis and Edward Gillis. She is survived by her three daughters and their spouses; four grandchildren: Tammy Wilson, Tracy Chamberlain, Daniel Collis and Marjorie Schwankoff, five great grandchildren: Julia P. and Peter John Wilson; Savannah, Drew and Emily Schwankoff; one sister Delores Fitzdam and a brother Robert Gillis both of Tribes Hill; several nieces, nephews, cousins and her life long friend Marge McKeone of Ireland.
Mrs. Cole was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held 10 am Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. with Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-8 pm. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory may be made to Mt. Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave. Gloversville,, N.Y. 12078
