Obituary of Eugene H. Null
Eugene "Gene" H. Null, 49, formerly of Hancock Street, Fort Plain, NY died peacefully on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at the Masonic Home in Utica, NY following a long illness. Born on July 1, 1960 in Amsterdam, NY he was the son of Harold and Nancy Vennette Null.
A lifelong area resident, Gene was a graduate of Fort Plain High School. In 1978 he enlisted with the United States Air Force and was stationed in Dover, Delaware, where he served proudly until his honorable discharge in 1982. He was employed as a car salesman at Hawkins in Nelliston, NY and later as sales manager of Skinner and Son Auto Sales in Herkimer, NY until the onset of his illness.
An active member of the community, he enjoyed memberships in the B.P.O.E. #2621 serving as Exalted Ruler from 1992 to 1993, the Mohawk Valley Earl Stock Memorial Post, VFW Post 4870, The American Legion, the Boiling Pot Eagles #3846 and The Moose of Canajoharie, NY. He was also a member of the F.&A.M. of Fort Plain and St. Johnsville. Gene will also be remembered for his love of the Adirondacks, road trips, camping and country music. He enjoyed helping people and loving life. Gene will be sadly missed by all who knew him
His family includes his parents; his wife, the former Helen Hoffman, who he married on December 24, 1978; his step children, Mark Armstrong and his wife Jessica of Dolgeville, NY, Sandra Pearl of Dolgeville, NY and Susan Armstrong of Cobleskill, NY; his sisters Carol Luckner and her husband James of Fort Plain, NY and Arlene LaPlante of Fort Plain, NY; two brothers, Steven and Donald Null, both of Canajoharie, NY; three grandchildren, Catherine, Vincent and Benjamin; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 12 noon at the Fort Plain Cemetery new section with military honors. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 5 until 8p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the St. Johnsville, NY Masonic Lodge or the B.P.O.E of Nelliston, NY for scholarship funds. The family would like to thank the Masonic Home for their love and care during Gene's stay.
