Obituary of Gordon VanDusen
Gordon VanDusen, 92, of Michael Circle, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, June 21, 2010 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. He was born in the Town of Palatine April 10, 1918 son of the late Leon and Lillian Peeler VanDusen.
Following his schooling, Gordon enlisted with the US ARMY during WWII and served in the European Theatre with the 253rd Combat Engineers. After being Honorably Discharged, he first went to work on his family farm in Stone Arabia before going to work for the NYSDOT in Fultonville as Shop Forman, retiring in 1980. He married the former Marie Duesler on October 30, 1942 at Beaver Fall, NY.
Gordon was a member of the Fonda Reformed Church serving on consistory as both Deacon and an Elder. He also enjoyed tracing the history of the church throughout the years. He was a member of the Glen-Mohawk Seniors, the Ft. Plain American Legion, and a former board member of Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.
His loving family includes his wife of nearly 68 years, Marie VanDusen and his sister, Zelda Hudson of Ft. Plain, NY. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
In addition to his parents, Gordon was predeceased by his brother Louis VanDusen and his sisters Beatrice Sweet, Leona Hinkle Christman, Gloria VanDusen and Hilda VanDusen.
Services will be at 11:00AM on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at Fonda Reformed Church, Broadway, Fonda, NY with Pastor Donald Pangburn, officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sand Flats, Fonda.
The family will receive relatives and friends this evening Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00PM at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY 12072.
